On Sunday, February 21, 2016, twenty-one artists all with different life experiences gathered at the new York Academy of Art for a special life drawing class with the a guest model: American rock legend Iggy Pop. The class was organized by the Brooklyn Museum and created by artist Jeremy Deller.
Pop posed nude on a different kind of stage as artists ranging from 19-70 years of age illustrated his body within a range of styles from a mix of students, practicing artists and retirees. Iggy Pop Life Class includes drawings by all artists who have participated. Some pieces are five-minute sketches, others are studies or even presentation drawings; in total come to 107 different works of art.
This book features an introduction by Deller as well as an interview with Pop about his reason behind participating in this project. Candid photos throughout the process of the project and an essay on the practice of life drawing in art history and the studio is also included in the book.
